Why do 'Big-Cosmetic' Corps think we're so STUPID!?

Next time you see that TV ad for wonderful new-techno-babble laden skincare and cosmetics that feature 'nano-particles'...stop and think! No - not about how fantastic and 'sci-fi' it all sounds; not about Star Trek, or Red dwarf! But about the REALITY of what they are offering!

That is....Skincare products that feature particles that are LESS than half the diameter of a RED BLOOD CELL!

Why is this a problem?

Why is this no more than a great way to be sure all those 'lovely chemicals' can be delivered right into your skin cells more easily and quickly making them 'rejuvenated' (or whatever else c**p the ad-men have thought up!! Sorry but it makes me REALLY mad!)...

Why is this problem? Because with 'nano-sized' particles in skincare they are so small they can cross the 'sacrosanct' blood brain barrier amongst other things!

God alone knows what these micro-micro-particulates might begin to do there! Truly - nano-technology is a 'Pandora's Box' and even before we really fully understand it, the Cosmetics and Skincare 'scientists' are suggesting we rush to try these new, sci-fi-sounding products without stopping to think of the POSSIBLE health issues that coating ourselves in this stuff might trigger!

Absolute madness!

So it is great to see 'EWG' on the case again:

Recent e-mail in an EWG newsletter states:
"...EWG analysts have already moved forward to identify 256 popular products where nanomaterials are listed as ingredients. Products include eye liner, moisturizer, bronzer, lip balm and sunscreen..."

and

"...Nanomaterials are super-tiny manmade chemicals that may pose extraordinary and unpredictable risks to public health. The FDA is concerned about these micro-sized ingredients because their toxicity may be very different, and potentially more severe than normal-sized chemical ingredients.

The cosmetics industry is slowly adding more nanomaterials to personal care products, even though none of the nanomaterials found on product labels in Skin Deep have been assessed for safety..."

Environmental Working Group are a leading Consumer Safety campaigning organization. They feature great stuff on their web site about many issues realting to our exposure to chemical toxins.

If you are a user of Working Assets services - which donates part of their users fees to fund good causes you can support EWG now just by VOTING for them:-
"Working Assets selects 50 groups to receive portions of their year-end donations. EWG's on the list, and we need your vote. It costs you nothing. Vote now."
